Western civilization places great value on the relationship between humans and dogs, but, in some developing countries and many parts of Asia, dogs are not given the same respect. In some areas of the world, dogs are used as guards or beasts of burden or even for food, while in America and Europe dogs are protected and admired. Dogs were considered sacred in ancient Egypt during the time of the pharaohs.
